Bag filters are a very effective method of collecting and retaining particles due to the "cake" of dust that forms on the surface of the bags. The fabric in the baghouse provides a surface on which the dust is deposited and collected through the following four mechanisms.
1.Inertial Collection Mechanism The fibers of the baghouse are positioned perpendicular to the direction of gas flow rather than changing position and orientation based on the direction of the gas stream.
2.Interception mechanism. Particles that do not cross the fluid flow lines come into contact with the fibers due to the size of the fibers.
3.Brownian Motion Mechanism-Particles diffuse due to random Brownian motions, thus increasing the probability of contact between the particles and the collection surface of the baghouse.
4.Electrostatic forces-The presence of an electrostatic charge (creation of an electric field) on the particles and the bag filter can increase the collection of dust
